Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC)

Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, HICC, was a muguet material of the twentieth century; EU law now prohibits it in cosmetic products.

From 23 August 2019 cosmetic products containing it could not be placed on the EU market. IFRA’s Standard, published in 2020, restricts it. Its identity is PubChem’s.

PubChem’s computed 3D conformer of hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC) (CID 91604, conformer 000165D400000003): the shape a computer model gives the molecule, not an experimental structure and not a picture of a real molecule. Ball and stick: 13 carbon, 2 oxygen; the 22 hydrogen atoms are left out for clarity. The balls are drawn smaller than the atoms’ real reach; a double bond is two sticks, side by side.
