Lavandula angustifolia Mill.

Lavandula angustifolia Mill., fine lavender, grows at altitude on limestone in Haute-Provence. Its flowering stems are cut above the leaves, left to wilt, and steam-distilled for the essential oil.

The French heritage record puts it in the family Lamiaceae, gives it 600 to 1700 m in the wild, and has it cultivated above 800 m inside the AOC area created in 1981. Lavandin, its hybrid with spike lavender, is on record beside it.

Lavender sprigs, dried and tied

A tied bunch of dried lavender sprigs, the house’s own model. Modelled in-house (procedural, in Blender); its size is typical of the material, not a measurement; not a photograph or a scan.

To place it in your room, open this page on an iPhone or iPad (AR Quick Look) or an Android phone (Google Scene Viewer). The files below open in any 3D viewer.

Seven sprigs of dried lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) tied with jute: the flowering stems, cut above the leaves, with the whorls of small calyces along the head - the part distilled for lavender oil, fresh. Dried lavender is a dull grey-violet. Modelled in-house from the sprigs on the Materials page’s specimen shelf.
