Teaching accords
Eight teaching accords, grouped by family. Accords built from the records to teach how a family is put together, in modeled parts: not commercial perfume formulas, not for skin.
Each line is one record page: the name, a short fact, and the opening line of the record. Every field on the page carries its source. Choose a group to show only that group; “All” shows them all again.

Each teaching accord page also carries a Perfume Autopsy: two or three teaching variants of the accord (modeled, each with the reason it exists) compared side by side, from what changed to why it could smell different. Start with the chypre’s oakmoss versions or the muguet before and after the EU prohibitions.
Amber 1
- An amber (the perfumer’s, not the resin) A perfumer’s amber: labdanum and vanillin, warm, sweet and resinous.
Chypre 1
- The chypre skeleton The chypre skeleton: bergamot over labdanum and oakmoss.
Citrus 1
- A cologne A cologne: bergamot and its molecules over a lavender heart.
Floral 3
- A muguet (lily of the valley), and what regulation took from it A muguet composed from synthetic materials, because lily of the valley gives no oil, and a lesson in what regulation removed.
- A rose, from four molecules A rose note built from four of its molecules, to smell how a rose is put together.
- A white floral, indolic An indolic white floral: jasmine absolute, its benzyl acetate, a fresh jasmonate and a trace of indole.
Fougère 1
- The fougère skeleton The fougère skeleton: coumarin, oakmoss, geranium and bergamot, as a review names Fougère Royale’s materials, and lavender, as the family came to use it.
Wood 1
- A woody-ambery A woody-ambery: Iso E Super over sandalwood and vetiver.
