An essence belongs to the more volatile, mobile side of the palette. Depending on the botanical, it may come from distillation or (in explicitly expressed citrus grades) from mechanical pressing, bringing immediacy and lift. Cold expression captures citrus peel oil mechanically, preserving a vivid, zest-forward opening. Five-fold concentration removes part of the most volatile terpenic volume, intensifying the citrus body.
